GREAT RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) – A draft regulation states that a former Michigan HIV-positive inmate will receive $ 150,000 after claiming he was sentenced to a heavier sentence in 2012 for alleged sexual activity than an uninfected prisoner.

The Grand Rapids Press reports that Michigan has agreed to change its policy of evaluating inmates living with HIV as part of the 47-year-old dispute with John Dorn.

He stated that he had spent 11 months in administrative segregation, had received a higher security clearance and had been sent to a prison in the Upper Peninsula, while the other detainee had lost his privileges only for 30 days.

The settlement is awaiting the judge's approval. According to the records, the agreement with the Michigan Department of Corrections is not an admission of fault committed by one or the other party.

Holly Kramer, spokesperson for the department, said that "all parties are satisfied with the resolution".
