Several injured pedestrians on Manhattan Street

One person was killed and six others injured after a van crashed against a fruit kiosk in Manhattan Monday night, the city's fire department said.

The accident occurred shortly after 6:45 pm. at Canal Street and Forsyth Street in Chinatown.

The NYPD said the driver, who had stayed on the scene, was trying to park in parallel.

The NY1 surveillance video obtained shows the vehicle backing onto the street and crashing on a kiosk:

Law enforcement officials told NY1 that they thought the accident was accidental and that the driver while driving spoke with the investigators around 7:30 pm.

The fire department said shortly before 8 pm two of the injured people sustained serious injuries, two pedestrians were listed as being in serious condition and two people suffered minor injuries.

Police said that the person killed was declared dead at the scene, while the other injured pedestrians were transported to local hospitals.

The NYPD advised people to avoid the area and wait for significant delays in traffic.
