A stabbing attack in Paris left seven injured Sunday night, according to reports.

Three of the victims were standing in front of a movie theater along the Ourcq Canal when the attacker hit them with a massive blade and an "iron bar," witnesses said.

The others were randomly taken to the streets.

"At this point, nothing shows signs of a terrorist nature in these attacks," police sources told Agence France-Presse. They said that the attacker was pursuing "strangers".

Four of the victims were seriously injured and were rushed to hospital in critical condition. Two would be British tourists.

French authorities have arrested the suspect at the scene and should charge him with attempted murder. Witnesses told AFP that after the first stab wounds, people began to chase the man down the street.

"There were about 20 people chasing him," said Youssef Najah, who was walking nearby.

"They started throwing balls of petanque," added Najah, describing the popular French game, which looks like Bocce.

"Four or five bullets hit him in the head, but they failed to stop him."

The suspect appeared to be carrying a 10 to 11 inch knife.

"[He] tried to hide behind two British tourists, "said Najah, referring to both victims.

"We told them," Be careful, he has a knife. "But they did not react."

The attack is only the last of a long series of knife shootings in France this year. Terrorism has, however, been ruled out in almost every incident.
