GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (WOOD) – The slight risk of extreme weather in central and southern Michigan later on Tuesday is somewhat unusual, as this year has been relatively quiet in terms of weather conditions.
SERIOUS METEOROLOGICAL TOTALS
As of September 24, Michigan has only recorded 273 reports of severe weather, well below the current average of 360 reports and well below that of its Midwestern counterparts in Wisconsin, the United States. Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.

The combination of dynamic air and a powerful lifting mechanism prompted the Storm Prediction Center to place portions of the Great Lakes in the low-risk area for the weather until Tuesday night. If traveling south, be aware that the low-risk area also includes much of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.

The main threat, which is often the case in Michigan, will be the wind in a straight line. Western Michigan is included in the tread where the Storm Prediction Center thinks that there is a 15% chance that gusts of wind will exceed 50 knots (58 mph) within a radius of 25 miles.
