Shameless loses another family member – and see you soon! Cameron Monaghan, who plays Ian Gallagher since his debut in 2011, will leave the Showtime series after The episode of this Sunday.

The actor announced the news of his departure on Instagram by writing that "all good things come to an end. An old cliché, but that sounds fair with sincerity and clarity especially in moments like these. Everything comes to an end."

"The next episode will be my last," he continued. "I know it since last year, but I did not want to reveal it too early because I wanted this season to be a surprise to the public, allowing him to live the uncertain journey of Ian with his character. This role was a joy of life, a crazy and special journey, and I would like to thank #Shameless and you, the viewers, for being there with him. Goodbye, Ian Clayton Gallagher. We will meet again? "

As Monaghan noted in his message, he portrayed the middle child Ian – who has struggled memorablely against bipolar disorder and has become a place of self-acceptance with respect to his sexuality – as a regular series for nine seasons. In his spare time, the actor enlightened Fox's film Gotham like Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska.

Monaghan is the second member of the Gallagher clan to bid farewell to the dramatic comedy Showtime: star Emmy Rossum announced in late August that she would leave after the current ninth season.

I have been a regular series of this show for about ten years. I was just fifteen years old when we shot the pilot and I reached adulthood in many ways, both legally and personally. I was very lucky to mature and grow with this show. Live as many firsts, become actors, professionals and people. In the process, win friends, family and the best coworkers that a very lucky actor could ask for, and for that I can only be gracious. All good things come to an end. An old cliché, but that sounds fair with sincerity and clarity especially in moments like these. Everything comes to an end. The next episode will be my last.
