The 49ers' players have not received the game plan for Sunday's game in Minnesota until this week.
But head coach Kyle Shanahan began formulating it in March after the signature of Jerick McKinnon gave him the double threat that he coveted.
On Saturday, however, McKinnon was lost for the season with a ripped ACL that he kept in practice. On Wednesday, Shanahan, speaking for the first time since McKinnon's injury was confirmed, admitted it was a hard blow.
"From the day we signed it, we planned the game for Minnesota," Shanahan said. "So I'm not going to lie – it's changing things drastically – it was our (our) first target in the free agency, so once you do that, you have a plan on how to use, especially during the first week. "
Without McKinnon, who has signed a $ 30 million four-year deal, the 49ers will turn to Matt Breida, a free agent of 2017 no Alfred Morris29 years old, which was signed on August 14th.
Not surprisingly, Shanahan offered no insight into their division of labor against the Vikings.

He noted that Breida, who has not played since he had a separate shoulder during the preseason game, is participating in his first full week of training. On Wednesday, Breida wore a sleeve over her injured shoulder before fully participating in the practice.
"We have to see how good (Breida) is," said Shanahan when asked how to use the sneakers. "It probably depends on many staff groups, what we play, things like that."
Injury report: Interior linebacker Malcolm Smith (Thigh) was limited in practice and his status for Sunday's game is "definitely" in the air, said Shanahan. If Smith is not available, Brock Coyle will start alongside rookie Fred Warnerwith Reuben Foster serve a two-game suspension to open the season.
Meanwhile, an offensive tackle Garry Gilliam has moved to the final phase of the concussion protocol and will be informed if he has no symptoms after being limited in practice on Wednesday. On Friday, the 49ers traded a 2019 pick to the Browns for offensive tackle Shon Coleman, in part because of Gilliam's uncertain status after his injury on Aug. 9.
cornerback Jimmie Ward (quadriceps) was limited in practice.
