Liverpool won the 4-1 win against Cardiff in their Premier League clash. Here are three things we learned from the game.
A comfortable victory against Cardiff on Saturday saw Liverpool extend its unbeaten run of games in the Premier League to 10 games. A well-earned double from Sadio Mane and goals from Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri earned the three Reds three points. Here are three things we learned:
Liverpool concedes finally
Having not conceded a goal at Anfield since February 2018, Liverpool looked good to set a record of tenths against a club record against Cardiff. Such hopes were shattered by the end of the second period, but when a slice of bad luck – or fortune, depending on your point of view – resulted in Cardiff striker Calum Paterson watching for Alisson .
Paterson's goal ended an incredible defense that allowed Liverpool not to concede a goal at Fortress Anfield for 918 minutes.
Shaqiri a member of the new fab four
Xherdan Shaqiri maintained his excellent form of delay coming off the bench to score his first goal for Liverpool. In doing so, the former star of Bayern Munich and Inter became the first Swiss player to score for the club.
The 27-year-old has received much praise for his impressive performances this season and is expected to become an important figure in Jurgen Klopp's offensive philosophy. The three Liverpool team-mates Roberto Firmino, Mane and Salah – who scored three of the club's four goals – formed what was dubbed the "Fab Four" with Philippe Coutinho last season and with the Brazilian gone since, Shaqiri should be the man to take his place.
Cardiff appears the relegation fodder
Although he does not currently occupy a place in the drop zone, Neil Warnock's Cardiff club seems ready for a real relegation battle. The Welsh have won only once in their first 10 games this season and have seemed particularly poor far from home.
We can take positive points that they were able to score against Liverpool despite the gap that separates them, but they will know that they will need a lot of improvement to succeed in their season.
