Shaquille O'Neal's son Shareef O'Neal, a UCLA rookie, will be out of his first season to recover from a cardiac surgery, he said on Friday.
O'Neal, 18, did not reveal the condition detected by the doctors, but TMZ Sports, who first reported the story, was "smelling funny" during one of his first summer practices with the Bruins. According to the 247Sports tracking service, O 'Neal, a 6-foot-9 attacker and rookie number 41 in the 2018 class, will perform a medical redshirt in his first year of study, which will allow him to continue his studies at UCLA and retain the four years of eligibility.
"During my rehabilitation, I will take my classes and I will be a normal student," he said.
"I'll be back in a short time," he added.
