A swimmer was reportedly bitten by a shark at Newcomb Hollow Beach in Wellfleet on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The incident was reported Saturday around noon on Wellfleet Beach located near the Truro City Line.

Cape Cod National Seashore authorities said the victim was transported to Cape Cod hospital by ambulance. The extent of the victim's injuries was not immediately known.

A spokesman said the incident occurred about 300 meters south of Newcomb Hollow Beach.

The US park guards and the Wellfleet police were investigating.

This would be the second shark attack on Cape Cod this summer.

Newcomb Hollow Beach is about 4 miles south of Long Nook Beach, where a 61-year-old Scarsdale neurologist from New York was attacked by a shark on August 15.

William Lytton said that he had been swimming in about "8 to 10 feet" of water off Truro, Massachusetts, when he felt an incredible pain crossing his left leg and he was quickly realized that he was being attacked by a shark.

The last deadly shark attack in Massachusetts dates back to 1936.

According to Shark Attack Data, there have been only three deadly shark attacks in Massachusetts history.

In 1936, a swimmer was killed by a shark off Buzzards Bay during an unprovoked attack. The other two deadly attacks occurred in 1830 and 1897.
