The return of the UFC to Madison Square Garden has finally taken place.
Valentina Shevchenko (15-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) will face Sijara Eubanks (3-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) for the vacant women's flyweight title ahead of the UFC 230 title early next month. The event will take place in less than five weeks and tickets are already on sale. Eubanks confirmed the booking to MMAjunkie following a first report from ESPN.com.
UFC 230 will take place Nov. 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The main card is broadcast a la carte after the preliminary matches of FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Shevchenko was scheduled to meet Nicco Montano a month ago at UFC 228. But Montano had to be hospitalized with a fat weight loss and was later stripped of the mid-weight female title that she did not have. had not yet defended after winning in December 2017 at the end of season 26 of "The Ultimate Fighter".
Shevchenko was seen pledging a blow to the vacant belt by UFC President Dana White. Less than two weeks ago, Shevchenko was announced for the vacant title fight at UFC 231 in Toronto against former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. But with the UFC 230 in dire need of a headliner, the UFC seems to have put an end to this fight to create Shevchenko-Eubanks.
Shevchenko lost a bantamweight battle for champion Amanda Nunes against UFC 215 13 months ago, before moving to flyweight. In February, she sent Priscila Cachoeira back to the division, but has not fought since.
Eubanks reached the final of "TUF 26", but had his own weight loss problems and was removed from the fight. Instead, Roxanne Modafferi beat Montano and lost. This left Eubanks from the outside looking, hoping to return to the good graces of the promotion. She did so with a decisive victory over Lauren Murphy in early June for her first official UFC victory. She will fight for the title for which she should have fought last December.
