Shin Lim Wins Season 13 of America's Got Talent

Shin Lim is the winner of America has talent!

"When you told me at 16 that a clumsy and shy kid would someday be performing at the Dolby Theater America has talentI would not have believed them. To compete on AGTit means the world to me, "said Lim, who spoke about his carpal tunnel syndrome due to an injury to the hand in the tendons of his thumb.

This 26-year-old self-taught Canadian-born magician currently residing in Acton, Mass., Seduced the public with magic tricks and close-ups. For his last lap, Lim made a card trick with host Tyra Banks and American ninja warrior co-organizers Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila.

During the competition, two judges Howie Mandel and Simon Cowell called Lim "the best close-up magician they've ever seen."

"You are the only one to make me believe that magic is possible," said Heidi Klum.

Lim becomes the second wizard to win AGT. Mat Franco was the winner of the ninth season.

In early childhood, Lim, whose parents are from Singapore, is interested in music and chooses to play piano at age 9. As a hobby, he practices magic at 16 years old.

However, he was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome at age 20 and was forced to choose between his two interests. Lim dropped out of his piano career, even leaving the music faculty at Lee University in Tennessee.

After learning most of his magical skills while watching YouTube, he appeared twice on the magic pills of Penn Jillette and Teller, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, in 2015 and 2017. He has taken his talents abroad, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Singapore, Sweden and Taiwan.

Lim beat the other finalists: singers Courtney Hadwin, Michael Ketterer, Daniel Emmet and Glennis Grace, as well as comedians Vicki Barbalok and Samuel J. Comroe and trapeze couple Duo Transcend.

Third place was electric violinist Brian King Joseph and second place was the acrobatic dance group Zurcaroh.

In addition to the title of season 13 champion, Lim also won a million dollars and a concert at the Paris Theater in Paris Las Vegas from 2 to 4 November.

Lim, who is the reigning world champion of close magic, is also planning to play alongside the Illusionists, a group of magicians who have also started the reality competition.

America has talent aired Tuesdays and Wednesdays (8 pm ET) on NBC.
