In the media mind, Harold Baines did not have much to do with the Hall of Fame.
That is why he has never garnered more than 6.1% of the votes from the American Baseball Writers' Association, far from the 75% required for the US. election to Cooperstown.
But Baines and his former close friend Lee Smith were elected Sunday by today's gaming committee, made up of 16 members.
And the baseball media reacted in a predictable way and, as a result, essentially making fun of the Hall of Fame for having welcomed a good player, but not excellent.
