The 2019 Hall of Fame ballot was released Monday by the Baseball Writers Association of America. The ballot includes 15 pieces from last year, two in the final year of eligibility and 20 freshmen. Mariano Rivera, who is closer to the Yankees, leads the latter group, but he is probably the only sure candidate to reach 75% of the writers' vote required for induction.
Add to that the fact that writers have enthroned four men a year ago (Chipper Jones, Vladimir Guerrero, Jim Thome and Trevor Hoffman) and that this year's ballot could be described as thinner though it's not the same. it contains two additional names. This could allow some writers, including last year's ballots submitted to a maximum of 10 selections, to vote for players they could not include last year, and the choice of Remaining candidates who get these votes should be very specific.
