SHOTS INVOLVED BY OFFICER: Shots involving officers reported in Gwinnett County

Gwinnet County, Ga.Channel 2 Action News learned that a police officer from Gwinnett County had been shot dead Saturday afternoon in Snellville. The officer had been taken to the Gwinnett Medical Center in critical condition.

The incident occurred around 3 pm. Saturday on the parking lot of Shiloh Middle School, according to officials. Police said the police were responding to a suspicious vehicle parked behind the school when the suspects began firing.

The officer was hit "not in the vest".

The police do not have people in custody but say that there is more than one suspect. Police do not know if one of the suspects is injured. Several law enforcement agencies work several scenes.

One resident said he saw the SWAT team hitting a Snellville shipyard with shields and shoulder guns.

Residents who reached out Channel 2 Action News Say that the police asked the residents to stay home and told them that they were still looking for the shooter. Other residents said they heard several shots.

At least one ambulance was seen fleeing the scene.
