Simmons University issued a "very clear" message after the police responded to reports of gunfire in the area.
A Simmons student said she heard noises that, in her opinion, sounded like shots, and locking was ordered as a precaution, said a university spokeswoman.
"The Boston police conducted a thorough search of the university campus and found no evidence of a shot," said spokesman Jeremy Solomon.
The Boston police were sent to the 300 Fenway Zone at 2:38 pm MassArt, Simmons and Emmanuel all implemented security procedures in response to the report.
Simmons University students received an SMS stating "active threat on campus. If you are on campus, barricade the doors and hide them. Avoid the windows. Run them, if you wish. Avoid campuses. Wait for instructions. "
"I was in the multicultural center when we received the message, we pushed chairs in front of the door and we hid in a conference room," said Farah, a Simmons student who was then escorted on the other side of the street by the police.
While flying over the sky, Sky5 saw many police vehicles in the area, including at least one armored vehicle. Students were also seen coming out of a Simmons building in a single file.
Emergency precautions lasted approximately 30 minutes.
