LONDON – Irish singer Sinead O'Connor announced that she had converted to Islam and changed her name to Shuhada 'Davitt.

The 51-year-old woman posted selfies of herself wearing hijabs on Twitter on a account registered under his Islamic name in recent days, as well as a video in which she sang the Azan, or call to prayer.

She tweeted on October 19th"It's to announce that I'm proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian's journey. Any study of the scriptures leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. "

The singer tore up an image of Pope John Paul II during an appearance in Saturday Night Live in 1992 to protest against the Catholic Church.

In recent years, she has spoken openly about her mental health issues.
