Six suspicious fires in Golden Gate Park in just 24 hours prompted officials to increase police presence in the park.

All fires, ranging from small fires to an acre fire, occurred in an isolated area near the Polo Field and the angling and casting ponds between Metson Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

None of the fires threatened residential and commercial neighborhoods nearby and no injuries were reported, according to the San Francisco fire department.

"San Francisco fire investigators are investigating the suspicious fires at Golden Gate Park," Lt. Jonathan Baxter said in a statement.

Two fires broke out near the polo field on Friday afternoon, when the biggest fire burned an acre, officials said. Both flames were contained before 19 hours.

Park guards and police at Richmond Station will patrol the area where the fires are coming, Park officials said.

Fire officials coordinate the investigation with the San Francisco Police Department and the San Francisco Department of Recreation and Parks.

Anyone with information about fires can contact the San Francisco Fire Department at 415 920-2933 or by email at [email protected]. Callers can remain anonymous.

Fire officials advise park visitors to call 911 when they see something suspicious.
