COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – A group of teens broke a van stolen from a marijuana dispensary in Colorado Springs and stole a pile of herbs. In fact, it was herbs. Oregano, to be precise.
Native Roots owners at Academy Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Parkway told our KKTV partners that they were not putting real marijuana in the shop windows.
The crash and seizure occurred just after 1 am in front of several witnesses.
"I was out of work and suddenly we heard that big accident," KRTV told KRTV. "[The suspects] came out with bunches of marijuana in her arms. "
Wrathbone said the suspects had thrown him a bottle of beer while he was calling the police.
"I decided to call the cops and we decided to get their plate number and all, and then I got a bottle of beer thrown out," he told the 11 News.
The suspects left the van behind – well inside the store.
Wrathbone and other witnesses told the police that they had seen the group leave in a separate getaway car on the other side of the clinic.
The police believe that there were two people in the van when she crashed into the store and two others in the van vehicle.
