Over the last two years, the social media platform has hosted dozens of original news and non-scripted shows from dozens of partners including NBC, CBS, ESPN, Viacom, Discovery, A & D E, NBA, NFL and many others. But on Wednesday, the company announced the launch of Snap Originals and a formal list of original series for this fall, which includes its first scripted series and documentary series.
Snapchat hopes that these new programs will find an audience that rivals or surpasses its current offerings, including NBC News' twice-daily newscast, Stay tuned, which has doubled its audience over the last year and now reaches 5 million unique viewers per day. The company says that over 70% of the audience is between 13 and 24 years old, making it Stay tuned one of the biggest sources of video information for this demo.
