Snow in Sunday: Weather Forecast for Kansas Vacations

Winter weather is expected to create dangerous driving conditions in much of Kansas on Sunday, as some travelers return from a Thanksgiving weekend.

Forecasters in the Wichita branch of the National Meteorological Service predict 1 to 3 inches of gusts of snow and wind up to 45 mph along the I-70 from Saturday night late. Poor weather conditions call for difficult driving conditions due to blowing snow. The snowfall should end at noon Sunday.

Angee Morgan, assistant director of the Kansas Division of Emergency Management, suggested drivers in the northern half of the state modify or delay their travel plans until the storm passes.

"Some areas will see strong winds causing snowstorms and whiteout conditions with areas of blowing and drifting snow," Morgan said in a statement. "This could lead to extremely dangerous travel conditions. If you plan to travel, be careful and make sure that the emergency kit of your car is stocked. "

The statement, issued by the Kansas Army National Guard, indicates that blowing snow will "greatly limit the visibility of those affected on Kansas's roads."

The weather service says outdoor items must be secure, including garbage cans and Christmas decorations and parties.

In Wichita, weather forecasts indicate a minimum of 35 degrees Saturday night to Sunday. The probability of rain and snow is 50%. The chances of snow come back later in the week, with a 30% chance Wednesday night and Thursday.

Total snowfall is expected to be higher in the Kansas City area and northeastern Kansas, where at least 6 inches are forecast.
