The First World War officially ended on November 11, 1918.
That day, the Germans and Allies signed an agreement to put an end to all hostilities on land, at sea and in the air.
In recognition of 100th anniversary of the armistice, many events are planned in southwestern Ontario.

Here are some of these ceremonies and special events:
Kitchener
The Remembrance Day Ceremony will take place at the Kitchener Cenotaph on the corner of Frederick Street and Duke Street at 10:45 am Before the service, a parade will take place on Ontario Street between King and Duke Streets.
Waterloo
At 10 am, a parade will travel from Regina Street (behind City Hall) to the Waterloo Cenotaph. The service will start at 10:30.
Cambridge
A parade featuring the Royal Highland Fusiliers will travel from the Cambridge Armory on Ainslie Street to the Galt Cenotaph. The event will take place between 10:15 and 11:30.
A ceremony will also be held at the Cenotaph in Preston at 10:15 am
Ayr
A parade and ceremony will be held at the Cenotaph on Stanley and Northumberland Streets.
Guelph
The Remembrance Day service will begin at the Sleeman Center, followed by a walk to the cenotaph, then to Wyndham Street and St. George's Square. Doors open at Sleeman Center at 9 am and service starts at 10:10.
A separate service will be held at McCrae House, Water Street. The day will begin at 6 am with pipes at McCrae Memorial Gardens. The Guelph Pipe Band will perform "The Battle's Over". At 9 am there will be a commemorative ceremony, followed by a poetry and spoken word event marking the 100th anniversary.th anniversary of the First World War at 1.30 pm
Elora
A Remembrance Day ceremony will be held at the MacDonald Square Cenotaph starting at 11:00 am
Fergus
A ceremony will take place at the cenotaph of Tower Street at 10:30.
Mount Forest
A parade and ceremony will take place at 11 am at Veterans Park Cenotaph, Parkside Drive and Main Street.
Paris
A parade of colors will take place from Broadway's Rexall parking lot at Mechanic Street's Cenotaph starting at 10:30 am.
Brantford
Between 18h on 10 Novemberth and November 11 at 7 amth, the names of soldiers who died during the First World War will be projected on the front of the Brant County War Memorial on Brant Avenue and Dalhousie Street.
On Remembrance Day, a piper lament will be played at 5 am, followed by an open house at Grace's Anglican Church, which will feature war memorials. A procession begins at 10:05 am until the cenotaph.
Another parade will be held at Harmony Square at 10:20 am, near the Brant County War Memorial.
Saint George
A service will be held at the Main Street Cenotaph beginning at 10:30 am, followed by a Community Luncheon at the Legion.
Stratford
A ceremony will be held at the Cenotaph on Veterans Drive starting at 10:30.
