In Earth's orbit is full of debris.
Given the difficult situation related to the presence of large amounts of space debris in Earth orbit, SpaceX has made some changes to its SpaceX Starlink project.
In a terrestrial orbit full of debris from wrecked satellites that crashed, the tools were lost during an exit into space. Now, NASA is tracking more than half a million debris, most of which are moving fairly fast and are capable of causing serious damage to the spacecraft. More than 200,000 of them are bigger than softball.
The Starlink SpaceX project – launching about 12,000 communication satellites for the launch of a global Internet could make this problem worse.
However, according to The Verge, SpaceX could already be a simple solution: to host more than a thousand Starlink satellites at a height lower than originally planned (1110 kilometers). The company is confident in the benefits of this solution.
First, satellites would be out of reach of most existing space debris. Secondly, with the 550-kilometer height, the satellites will be much easier to return to Earth once the work is completed. According to NASA, this will happen about every five years. At this altitude, the Earth's atmosphere will automatically dispose of SpaceX waste, slowly moving the satellite orbit.
For the space industry, it is good that SpaceX think ahead of the effects of the presence of additional debris in orbit. Sending satellites into orbit for them to destroy old space debris is not a good sign, especially if you are working on the international space station.
