The president of SpaceX said Tuesday that Elon Musk, the company's founder and CEO, was "as lucid and competent as he has ever been," despite a multi-month behavior campaign that has shaken many investors. some of the most ambitious companies in the world.

"Elon is a brilliant man," said Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer of SpaceX, in Paris, at a conference on the satellite industry, according to Bloomberg News. "I wish people do not focus on triviality."

His comments follow a long summer for Musk. The entrepreneur, who also heads Tesla, was widely convicted in July after baselessly calling a British diver involved in rescuing a Thai football team as a "pedo guy." He then apologized, as a "child rapist" without providing any evidence.

Musk also shocked the global financial markets after sending an offensive tweet saying that he was considering taking Tesla privately, which caused the company's shares to skyrocket and provoked a subpoena from the Securities and Exchange Commission. He also blinked after smoking marijuana in a podcast with comedian Joe Rogan last week.

In a radical interview with The New York Times last month, Musk said the past year was "the most difficult and painful year of my career," noting that he had a hard time keeping everything. He stated that he had not taken more than a week of vacation since 2001 because of his workload, and he said he took Ambien to help him sleep.

"There were times when I did not leave the factory for three or four days – days I did not go out," Musk told the Times. "It really cost to see my kids. And see friends.

Shotwell stated that Musk's behavior had "no impact" on the confidence of some of SpaceX's limited partners in the CEO and that there was "no chance" that such actions would influence future contracts of the society. Bloomberg News noted that SpaceX is expected to perform about 22 missions this year and is planning a second flight of its Falcon Heavy rocket.

"Look at the work Elon companies do and focus on it," she said, according to Bloomberg News. "Not what he does."
