SpaceX's next giant rocket, the Big Falcon Rocket (BFR) does not even exist in capacities other than design and some parts of manufacturing plants, but it already has a new name. CEO Elon Musk has announced the change on Twitter, as he usually does. The BFR is now known as Starship, but it's not that simple at first.

Previously, the naming scheme of the rocket was more complex than widely understood. The part of the rocket that operated in space actually called the Big Falcon spacecraft (BFS). With the booster portion that helped her escape Earth's gravity, it was the Big Falcon rocket.

According to Musk, Starship will refer to the upper floor that works in the space (and can carry people). The rocket propulsion part simply calls "Super Heavy". Musk also points out that Super Heavy will not be needed for Starship to take off from other planets and moons with less gravity than the Earth.

Renaming the BFR in Starship seems a little grandiose for a vehicle that will not travel to other stars. Although Musk, still so stupid, noted in a follow-up tweet that future versions of the Starship would go to other stars. Of course, Elon.

Back in the world of possibility, SpaceX hopes to make the giant 387 foot rocket the heart of its space flight operations. It could replace by itself the capsules Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy and Dragon. Like the Falcon rockets, the Starship and Super Heavy ships are reusable, or at least they are meant to be reused in the future. SpaceX is still building the Starship prototype at a Los Angeles port facility, which will cost the company about $ 5 billion.

When operational, the ship will be able to carry up to 100 passengers or 100 tons of cargo to Mars. SpaceX could launch rocket test launches as early as 2020 and the first commercial missions could take place a few years later. The only mission currently inscribed in the book is the lunar flyover of the tourist industry funded by Japanese fashion entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa.

The BFR has suffered several delays and the change of name will not facilitate the construction of the rocket. So this timeline could still slide because SpaceX is trying to create a completely new type of rocket.

Now read: SpaceX is building its BFR in Los Angeles, and Congress may not be happy, Elon Musk says Mars Rocket could carry passengers anywhere on Earth in an hour, and SpaceX is launching the lunar missions of the Japanese start-up
