SpaceX and NASA will target on January 7 the unexpected demonstration flight of the company's Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station, a crucial mission that will pave the way for future flights from US ground.

The Kennedy Space Center's 39A platform, formerly used for the launch of Apollo and Space Shuttle, will host a Falcon 9 rocket as part of the mission designed to cover the full range of operations from launch to launch. launching, via the ditching operations, announced NASA Wednesday.

The teams should use the data and experience of SpaceX's first crewed demonstration flight, also from AprA 39A, scheduled for June at the earliest. It will be almost eight years since the last crewed mission took off from American soil aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis.

Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley will be Be the first astronauts to cross a new futuristic 85-foot catwalk aboard the ship and aboard the Dragon crew for crew test flight, followed by Victor Glover and Mike Hopkins for the first mission operational of the capsule on the ISS.

The NASA program set up to help commercial companies route astronauts to the ISS, dubbed Commercial Crew, has also selected Boeing as part of its first round of $ 6.8 billion of dollars. It is now expected that the company will fly its unmanned Starliner capsule in March and aim for a crewed mission in August if all goes well. Boeing's astronauts include Eric Boe, Josh Cassada, Chris Ferguson, Nicole Mann and Suni Williams.

The announcement by NASA of the launch of the goal on January 7, however, took place less than a day after the filing of a report by The Washington Post said that the agency had ordered a review of the safety of SpaceX and Boeing to better understand the "culture of the workplace".

The report indicates that the investigation was triggered, at least in part, by the recent behavior of SpaceX president, Elon Musk, on the podcast "The Joe Rogan Experience" broadcast online. We see Musk sipping whiskey and taking a single glass of marijuana.

A spokesman for NASA refused to say to the To post exactly what motivated the examination.

Back on the launch manifesto, SpaceX is scheduled to complete four missions by 2018: two from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and two from Cape Canaveral Air Force Base.

The first of these, dubbed SSO-A, is to be launched from Vandenberg no earlier than 27 November and will mark the first time that the company will attempt to fly the same recall three times. A week later, on December 4, a Falcon 9 will carry thousands of pounds of scientific and scientific experiments into the ISS, from Cape Canaveral at 1:38 pm.
