Remember the movie arachnophobia? Well, that's nothing on this story.
A group of spiders (that's their collective name) terrorized an Ipswich street – but not by appearing in tubs or spinning thick layers of spider webs that remain stuck in your hair.
No, it's a scary nursery rhyme. We told you that this story was like a horror movie.
According to Ipswich StarA mother and two children living on Bramford Road in Suffolk City were tormented every night by a very scary version of "It's Raining, It's Versing."
The song could only be heard in the distance and a recording shows that it is barely audible, but is still very disturbing and would give even the most courageous nightmares.
After months (yes, months) of being scared and having no idea what was happening, she finally decided to report it to the Ipswich Council.
Other residents reportedly reported the sound.
Speaking to Ipswich Star:
I started to wonder why I lived with that when I could do something.
The anonymous woman, added in an interview with the BBC:
The first time I heard it, it was the most terrifying thing, I was cold and I felt sick and thought: "That 's it was that?
Finally, on September 12, after the mysterious music started playing for "every two or three minutes", the woman and the council team were able to determine that the music was coming from Europa Way, a street adjacent to Bamford Road. .
The scary air scene was found in the Farthing Road estate, where music sounded from a speaker attached to a unit of the site.
What? Was it some kind of evil colony of spiders that wanted to ruin the lives of the good people of Ipswich?
The explanation is actually a lot stranger.
The song would be used as a deterrent against potential intruders, but it was constantly extinguishing as spiders crawled through the CCTV's motion sensors and triggered alarms.
A spokesman for the site said in a statement:
The sound is only meant to deter opportunistic thieves arriving on our property and it was designed only to be heard by people from our territory.
We are now aware of the problem – the motion detectors were triggered by spiders crawling through the lenses of our cameras and it seems we showed them too hard.
We spoke to the resident who brought it to our attention and adapted it so that it does not happen again.
The volume has since been lowered and can no longer be heard from the woman's house.
A council spokesperson added:
This is unique in our experience – it was hard to believe that a nursery rhyme would play in the middle of the night.
We heard the nursery rhyme play in an industrial place and it seemed very strange at this time of night.
The story has since become something of a viral success, perhaps based on fear of spiders and scary songs.
