COLOMBO (Reuters) – Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena
Parliament will resume its work on 5 November. The newly appointed Prime Minister
Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said Thursday, as an international
the pressure is rising to solve a political crisis.

Sirisena appointed Rajapaksa, pro-Chinese, to the post of prime minister on
Friday after abruptly dismissing Ranil's government
Wickremesinghe.

Wickremesinghe stated that his dismissal was unconstitutional and had
required that he be allowed to prove his parliamentary majority.

"The President has decided to reconvene Parliament on the 5th"
Rajapaksa said at a meeting at the Prime Minister
Office.

Sirisena had previously prorogued Parliament until 16 November, but
political parties and foreign powers urged a session
solve the crisis.
