CLAYTON (KMOV.com) –

At the St. Louis County Council meeting Tuesday, authorities set up a task force that will look into the opioid epidemic.

The council has established a bipartite task force and is requesting $ 1 million in emergency funding to combat the opioid epidemic.

The working group will be established by July 3rd with a detailed roadmap by August 31st.

A local couple who lost his son due to the opioid epidemic said he hoped the working group would begin a broader discussion about opioids.

Greg Miele and his wife lost their son to Alexander in 2010. Every 90 days, they visit local jails and talk to drug addicts.

"I think it's wonderful that it's catching attention now," Greg said.
