Organic: Stacey Abrams is about to make history. Alum Spelman College is engaged in a close race to become the next governor of Georgia. If she succeeds, Abrams will become the first black woman to hold the title in American history. Abrams has worked in several sectors, from the non-profit world to the Georgia State House. Prior to launching her governorship campaign, she served as leader of the Democratic Minority at Georgia's General Assembly, passing from the other side of the alley to conclude bipartite agreements on transport, infrastructure and education. In addition to his service to the Georgia Assembly, Abrams also co-founded the New Georgia Project, an organization that works to register color voters. Abrams has garnered the support of several renowned Democrats, such as former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama, as well as groups of workers such as the AFL-CIO. Although it remains to be seen if Abrams can go from red to blue, she thinks voters are looking to try something different.
"Georgians are ready for a progressive leader with bold plans to expand access to quality care, improve our public schools and create well-paying jobs in every corner of the state", a- she told PETER. "I am the only candidate with detailed plans to create concrete and positive change for Georgia, and that is exactly the kind of reason that voters are looking to go to the polls."
