Cosplay at spaaaaaace!

The crew of the International Space Station is in the mood for Halloween with a trio of extravagant costumes. European Space Agency astronaut Alexander Gerst tweeted Wednesday photos of shenanigans, saying the crew had "a scary day in space".

Cosmonaut Sergey Prokopyev of Roscosmos is working on his rock'n'roll hip rolls playing Elvis Presley, with wig, sunglasses, sticky bracelets, guitar and reverse suit collar. Gerst hides inside the Star Wars Darth Vader outfit by brandishing a lightsaber.

NASA astronaut Serena Auñón-Chancellor, a doctor, donned a lab coat that she placed in orbit and added goggles and a patch with a skull and crossbones motif. The outfit makes her look like a mad doctor or scientist.

The costumes are part of a great tradition of dressing in the space. Astronaut of NASA Scott Kelly scared us scary mask in 2015. ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti posted a selfie as captain of Star Trek Kathryn Janeway earlier that year. And, oh yes, there is a gorilla costume on the ISS.

There are currently only three crew members aboard the ISS after the failed launch of Soyuz earlier in October. They continue their scientific tasks, but still have enough free time to celebrate Halloween in style.
