Writer Chuck Wendig explained in a series of tweets that he has been fired by Marvel Comics from its Star Wars titles for “the negativity and vulgarity that [his] tweets bring,” referring to his Twitter responses to disgruntled Star Wars fans.
Wendig is known for writing the Star Wars: Aftermath novels, which drew ire from fans over its gay protagonist. He further explained that since the release of the book (which was bombarded with one-star reviews from coordinated negative campaigns), he has been harassed by fans who identify with Comicsgate and other anti-diversity efforts.
To rewind a little bit, when SW: AFTERMATH came out, I assume most know but maybe you don’t, I put some ahh, elements in there (LGBT characters) that were not received well by a certain subset of fandom.

That resulted in both a negative review campaign, found across various FB groups and other Worst Places on the Internet, that began mounting the very minute the book dropped online.

I also started receiving TONS of harassment – harassment that has gone on for years, harassment that has required me to contact local police and warn them of SWATting attempts, harassment across all corners of the Internet, here, FB, Reddit, YouTube.

Wendig clarified that the decision about his dismissal came from Marvel Comics and not Lucasfilm Ltd., and tweeted that he was explicitly told that his firing was a result of his “negativity” on social media.
Today I got the call. I’m fired. Because of the negativity and vulgarity that my tweets bring. Seriously, that’s what Mark, the editor said. It was too much politics, too much vulgarity, too much negativity on my part.

Before his firing, Wendig had been working on two Star Wars comic book series: Shadow of Vader and another as-yet-unannounced title. Wendig will not finish his work on these series.
Wendig finished his twitter thread by calling his firing “a win for Comicsgate” and urged his fans to vote in the midterm elections.
