It has been exactly one year since the first wave of allegations against Harvey Weinstein was published, marking the beginning of an era in which countless men have been charged with sexual misconduct. As a result, many of them have been fired, exiled or ostracized, but Steven Seagal is a character whose career seems to have been relatively unaffected by the #MeToo and Time's Up moves. This may be at least partly due to the fact that it is already much less visible than at its peak, but the fact remains that the actor has been accused of sexual harassment and rape by several women.
After being questioned about these allegations during an interview with Kristy Wark by BBC Newsnight, Seagal quickly went out.
"Obviously, you spend a lot of time in Russia, you spend a lot of time in America, you make movies, and so on. When it comes to your life in the United States, you're very involved in all allegations of sexual harassment, "Wark began, barely finishing his sentence before Seagal removed his earpiece and got up.
"You had an allegation of rape against you. I wonder how you manage all this. She then noted that, even if he had not answered the question, Seagal had previously denied all the allegations against him.
In March of this year, Regina Simons charged Seagal with raping her at home in 1993; she was 18 years old at the time and thought she was coming to an all-encompassing party for "On Deadly Ground". He was also charged with sexual harassment by Portia de Rossi and sexual assault by actress Rachel Grant and Dutch singer Faviola Dadis.
IndieWire sought the advice of the Seagal representatives.
