HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Channel 3 has declared an early weather day in anticipation of potentially severe storms for Wednesday.
Meteorologist Mark Dixon said that a cold front would approach the state on Wednesday night.
"With that, there will be a chance for strong, potentially severe storms," said Dixon. "The biggest threat seems to be our north and northwest."
Dixon said the main concern with the storms that are developing will be strong, damaging wind and maybe lightning.
"It's for Wednesday night, after the evening commute," he said.
Meanwhile, Tuesday, heavy rains have crossed the state since morning.
"Very heavy rains continue to slowly come out of [New York City] metropolitan area in southwestern Connecticut, "said Dixon." Be safe when traveling with poor visibility and potential floods. "

All this is due to a warm front that is settling in the area.
There could even be some thunderstorms in the mix later in the afternoon and evening.

"We're still on track to have the totals oscillate between 1 and 2 inches later [Tuesday] "said Dixon. In view of this, poor drainage / harmful flooding is possible. "
As the warm front progresses Tuesday night, the rain should be reduced to scattered showers and drizzle.
The air will become humid and the temperatures will remain in the 60s. They could even get up a little after midnight.
"[Wednesday] will be a hotter and wetter day, "said Dixon. With just a partial release, limited sunshine will help achieve temperatures of around 80 degrees. "
The dew point will reach or exceed 70 degrees and the sky will be mostly cloudy. There could be some sun intervals.
Although scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible in the morning, the main event should arrive in the evening.
The Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma has Connecticut in a "light" area at risk of severe weather.
"The rest of the week and the weekend are on track for mostly dry and seasonal weather conditions," Dixon said.
The temperatures will be in the 70s on Thursday, with partly sunny skies.
It will be cold during the night, while temperatures fall between 45 and 55 degrees.
Friday will be the same.
Overall, the weekend is beautiful, but there is a chance for the showers Saturday night.
