According to LiveScience, archaeologists may have unearthed the system responsible for firing stones on a slope at Hatnub, an old alabaster quarry. The system may have been used to transport these stones, according to archaeologists from the French Institute of Oriental Archeology. And it may have been used to build the Great Pyramid, made up of 2.3 million blocks of limestone and granite, weighing an average of 2.5 tons.

"This system is composed of a central ramp flanked by two stairs pierced with many poles," said Yannis Gourdon, co-director of the joint mission at LiveScience. "Using a sled that carried a block of stone and was tied with ropes to these wooden posts, the ancient Egyptians were able to pull the quarry's alabaster blocks on very steep slopes of 20% or more. . "

In September 2017, researchers found evidence that the limestone used to create the Great Pyramid could have been transported by ship.

The ropes were tied to the sled and allowed easier climbing on the ramp, leaving people carrying the heavy slabs more easily, said Roland Enmarch, the other co-director of the Hatnub mission.

"This kind of system has never been discovered anywhere else," added Gourdon. "The study of tool marks and the presence of two [of] Khufu's inscriptions led us to the conclusion that this system dates back at least to the reign of Khufu, the builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza. "

The experts discovered the building, measuring 56 feet by 48 feet, in the city of Mit Rahina, 20 km south of Cairo. Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, says the building is probably part of the residential block of the ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis.

Archaeologists have also recently discovered an ancient Egyptian tomb dating back over 4,000 years and belonging to a priest named Kaires, the "only friend" of an Egyptian pharaoh to be determined. Kaires is described as "the steward of the royal palace" and the "guardian of the morning house secret".

The grave was discovered in a burial site near a pyramid at Abusir, according to LiveScience.
