Marion Knight, the former rap swimmer, better known as Suge, will be sentenced to 28 years in prison after pleading unequivocally on Thursday to reduce the charges related to a death in 2015 related to the film "Straight Outta Compton, After a series of bizarre events that delayed his trial for murder.

Mr. Knight, 53, did not plead for a willful homicide in the Los Angeles Superior Court after a plea agreement was reached a few days before the jury selection began. He had been charged with murder, attempted murder and flight following an argument on the set of a trailer of the popular N.W.A biopic, which included a performance of Mr. Knight.

Authorities said Knight killed Terry Carter, a 55-year-old businessman from Compton, California, and injured security consultant Cle Sloan when he ran a hamburger stand. His lawyers then stated that he was fleeing and acting in self-defense.

The Los Angeles County Attorney's Office announced in a statement that Mr. Knight would be sentenced to 11 years in jail for manslaughter, which would be doubled under California law on his three convictions. Because this conviction was about a "serious and violent" crime that used a lethal weapon – a Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck – it was given another six years. The official award is scheduled for October 4.

A lawyer for Mr. Knight did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday.
