Suge Knight sentenced to 28 years in prison for murder and death

A Los Angeles judge Thursday sentenced disgraced music mogul Suge Knight to 28 years in prison for murder to kill, ending one of the most successful careers in history. of hip-hop.

The 53-year-old icon must be locked up for nearly three decades for killing one man and injuring another when he crushed her in front of a burger kiosk in Compton in 2015 .

By not arguing against intentional homicide, Knight avoided a murder trial – and a possible life sentence.

The deadly confrontation of January 29, 2015 at Tam's Burgers was filmed by surveillance cameras. Knight was backing his van over Cle "Bone" Sloan before engaging in Terry Carter, a longtime business man who had built custom-made lowriders.

Knight then left and Carter died as a result of his injuries.

Sloan, originally from Compton for a long time, worked as a consultant for N.W.A. biopic "Straight Outta Compton."

A letter from Carter's widow, Lillian, was read to the court.

She told the judge that when her husband's name was plugged into an Internet search engine, there was nothing about his role as a community leader or businessman.

"What you see, is (a video of) the accused killing my husband," says the widow's letter. "He was so much more than the man that the accused killed with his truck. He is my husband, my best friend, my supplier. "

Carter said she was devastated to see Knight smile and greet his loved ones during his various court appearances.

"I will never see Terry smile again," according to the widow. "All interactions with Terry ended on January 29, 2015. We only have memories."

Judge Ronald S. Coen of the Los Angeles Superior Court told Carter's family: "Let me tell you, my heart is talking to you."

Knight, wearing an orange jumpsuit, white sneakers and a cross hung around his neck, briefly glanced toward the tribune before being driven by a bailiff.

Before competing in September, Knight claimed self-defense.

In the case between Knight and the prosecutors, two cases pending against the mogul were classified: a robbery in 2014 and charges that he threatened the director of "Straight Outta Compton".

Knight was angry at the director for not being paid for his resemblance as it was used in the best-selling film of N.W.A's early 90's rise.

Knight is one of the major figures in the history of hip-hop, having founded Death Row Records and developed the careers of stars such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

He was also a central figure in the murderous rivalry between rappers on the west coast and the east coast. Knight was in the car with Shakur when he was killed during a shooting in Las Vegas in 1996.
