Summary of Dancing With the Stars: Season 27, Episode 6

Dance with the stars try something new with "Trio Night" from season 27. Instead of each couple having another professional joining them on the dance floor (a formula that appealed to the crowd in the past), DWTS alumni and friends of candidates come to join the party. Why does this change happen? Nobody knows. How is the change going? The results are mixed. See below!

Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke with Melissa Rycroft
Cha Cha, "Wavey" of CliQ with Alika
Juan Pablo and Cheryl are always on top after their perfect score last week (I'm still thinking about this samba, tell me I'm not alone). But that top gets stuck pretty fast once they start rehearsing their cha cha trio with All-Star season champ Melissa Rycroft. Things are hectic! Juan Pablo feels danced! Cheryl has to redo a choreography because it's just right. do not. job. But then they come on the floor and make a sexy cha cha cha and it's like there are no problems to start. As Len points out, there is not a ton of cha cha content, but there is a ton of hip action. Like, enough to last all season. So hot!

Tinashe and Brandon Armstrong with Amy Purdy
Tango, "Hit me with your best shot" of Rock of the ages
Hi guys, do you remember how Tinashe and Brandon, one of the best technically couples in this competition, have almost returned home last week? Not cool, America. But things improve! For their tango trio, they have the Paralympic snowboarder and the second of season 18, Amy Purdy, always delighted on the dance floor. Tango is so focused on the framing and the dance that he holds, so it's a delicate style for a trio. Brandon really impresses everyone with his choreography as a beginner professional, huh? The three women form an innovative trio in which women are seasoned lawyers and Brandon is a hot judge. Honestly, I have not had to be part of a jury for a few years. Why does not anyone talk about it?

John Schneider and Emma Slater with Joey Fatone
Argentine Tango, "torn" by Nathan Lanier
Joey Fatone joins John and Emma for their Greek-inspired Argentine tango – can you believe it was on season 4? Am I 100 years old? Joey feels the pressure to really show up for John, and he turns out to be an excellent teammate for this guy. They hear well – maybe too well because Emma wants to repeat and both start a bromance. The routine itself is a very good concept, but there are less clean parts at the beginning and the judges are not afraid to report them. Emma's choreography incorporating these three elements is excellent and Carrie Ann really likes that, instead of playing the typical light characters of the guy, she becomes dark and moody. A little something different goes a long way.

Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe with Scarlett Byrne
Salsa, "Black Magic" by Little Mix
Our first non-alum trio partner comes in the form of Scarlett Byrne, Evanna's friend of the group Harry Potter movies (she was a Slytherin, then, you know). It's risky to have someone who has never played the series that will join you – who knows what will happen when the time comes to play! Scarlett holds hers, though. You can say that Evanna has a lot of fun dancing this salsa with her best daughter. Len is a fan of the amount of traditional salsa in the choreography, Bruno is a fan of seeing Evanna's confidence growing every week, I'm a fan of Keo being teleported on stage to start the routine. No more teleportation in the ballroom and in general, to be honest.

DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold with Rashad Jennings
Paso Doble, "Fire" by Barns Courtney
Season 24 champion Rashad Jennings starts the rehearsal with DeMarcus and Lindsay and immediately moves DeMarcus's finger. It's both sad and hilarious. His "hello to the chest" dislocks the finger of the guy. After we all pause, when we watch DeMarcus bring out his finger, we resume the routine. This intense and aggressive grid step highlights the appearance of boys, as noted by Carrie Ann, but the judges are disappointed. Len and Bruno appreciate all the attack (Bruno really like it), but there was no subtlety. Carrie Ann thought DeMarcus had spent too much time trying to associate Rashad instead of dancing in his own way. In life and on the dance floor: Be yourself.
