The blind auditions ended on The voice season 15 tonight, with coaches Adam Levine, Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton making their last laps of the season. After the first hour, the fight round began and brought together the mentors of this season: Keith Urban for the Blake team, Thomas Rhett for the Kelly team, Halsey of the Jennifer team, and Cee Lo Green for the Adam team.
At the opening of the last round of blind auditions, Emily Hough sang "Big Yellow Taxi" of Joni Mitchell. It was not a perfect performance, but she showed potential, and she had the chance to play Levine, Shelton and Hudson. She ended up choosing the Adam team. With that, the Adam team was full.
Josh Davis then sang "Too Good At Goodbyes" Sam Smith. His soft, soulful sound caught Clarkson and Hudson's ears. He chose the Kelly team to fill the Clarkson team.
Artist Lisa Ramey, based in Brooklyn, followed with a performance of "Beautiful Trauma" from Pink. She did not receive any coaches' rounds.
Katrina Cain achieved the expected result with her performance of "Rhiannon" from Fleetwood Mac. She has a lot of experience in the industry, but came to The Voice to advance her career. Shelton and Hudson took turns with her, and Clarkson was particularly disappointed that his team was complete. Cain joined the Blake team, filling the team.
The last artist to audition for season 15 was Matt Johnson, who had sung "Never Too Much" Luther Vandross. His voice was what Hudson was waiting for. She turned and chose him as the last artist to fill his team.
With the selection of the 48 best players of season 15, it was time to start the battle. The first was Team Kelly with the help of Rhett. Clarkson paired Sandy Redd and Cody Ray Raymond and had them sing "Cry To Me" by Solomon Burke. Both artists had impressive scales, and Rhett persuaded Raymond to have lower notes. The two artists were well mixed and had excellent chemistry from the start.
During their last performance, the two artists proved to be powerful. They also commanded the scene, leaving Clarkson a very difficult decision to make. Levine immediately said that he would steal the one who lost. Clarkson eventually picks Raymond, leaving Redd on the block. Indeed, Levine, Hudson and Shelton all stole the show. Redd chose Jennifer team and hope to have more luck with this team.
Team Blake and his mentor Urban were next, bringing Michael Lee and Joey Green together for a performance of "A Thing Called Love" by Bonnie Raitt. Green seemed the most comfortable in their rehearsals, but Urban and Shelton encouraged Lee to overcome his nerves.
In his last performance, Green introduced his lineup and Lee introduced his unique tone and guitar skills. Shelton chose Lee as the winner and Green was eliminated. No coach has chosen to steal it.
The final battle came from team Jennifer, who paired Colton Smith and Patrique Fortson. Halsey was on hand to advise and Hudson had asked them to sing the proper "God gave me life".
Both artists have an impressive range and delicate vocals, making this ballad a powerful song choice that suits them both. It was sure to be a stormy battle. In their performances, Smith and Fortson were indeed very well matched, blending well while also distinguishing themselves by their tracks and individual tones. Fortson came out victorious from the Jennifer team, but Shelton kept Smith in the competition by stealing it. In the end, only one artist was eliminated from the first round of Battles.
The battle continues tomorrow night on NBC.
