I'm not sure what the FBI found during her six background checks during Brett Kavanaugh's career, but it seems that the Supreme Court candidate belonged to a fraternity known for lacking
According to the Yale Daily News, Kavanaugh joined the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity in 1984 in his first year at Yale. A photo, which appeared in the school newspaper in 1985, shows Kavanaugh's frat bros "waving a flag woven from female underwear as part of a DKE procession initiated on Yale Campus".
Although Kavanaugh is not shown in the photo, and there has been no evidence of Kavanuagh's involvement in such acts, he summarizes the culture of brotherhood to which the Supreme Court nominee acceded. Yale Daily News notes that the photo ran under the title "DKE AT PLAY" and adds that the then president of the University, Bartlett Giamatti, was a former DKE brother.
Kavanaugh is ready for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. It could very well be the deciding vote in women's critical issues, including toppling Roe v. Wade. What does he say about the fact that some of the most powerful men in the country, not just Kavanaugh, were proud members of these college groups? How did it shape them? What does it say about the difficult climb that #MeToo is doing?
At least one Yale student did not find the fun antics of DKE.
In a letter to the editor published in the News three days later, a Yale student, Rachel Eisler & 86, accused DKE of making antics. She wrote that she had asked one of the flag bearers or jockstraps were affixed to the post. "Well, I did not succeed," replied the pledge, according to the letter. He then stated that he doubted that "guy stuff" was incorporated into the flag.
"But hey," he said to the student, according to the letter. "Your panties could be there!"
Yale Daily News also notes that, in addition to joining DKE, Kavanaugh has also become a member of Truth and Courage, one of Yale's secret seniors' societies known as "Tit and Clit".
Kavanugh graduated in 1987, but DKE's reputation for abusing women on campus did not stop.
In 2011, Yale banned DKE from leaving the campus for five years after videos of fraternity recruits were released.
And this spring, the University launched an investigation into the sexual climate of fraternity after reports in the Yale Daily News and Business Insider documented allegations of sexual assault against more than half a dozen members, including the former president of the fraternity.
Kavanaugh faces allegations that he sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford while they were in high school. He has repeatedly denied the accusations and says he looks forward to an eventual Senate hearing next week to release his name.
