PASADENA (CBSLA) – A suspicious device at a U-Haul facility in Pasadena was deemed safe Monday night.
Police Pasadena responded to a call for a suspicious package around 17:45. in a parking lot located in the 500 block of South Raymond Avenue. Agents who responded found a package attached to a rental truck in the lot.
Several surrounding streets in the commercial area were closed and businesses, including KPCC radio, located within 2-3 blocks, were evacuated. Residences and a homeless shelter were also evacuated.
SKY9's Stu Mundel was on site, where a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Bomb Team was inspecting the craft.
Pasadena police said the device appeared real, but that he was determined not to pose a threat after his blast.
"The device was about 6 to 8 inches in length. It looked like a device for the demining team … there were cables, tape – and enough so that they could decide that in fact, it looked like a real device. " said Pasadena police chief John Perez.
The Gold Line train service was interrupted between Memorial Park Station and South Pasadena stations, the subway lanes along the rental center.
Part of the 110 Freeway has since reopened in both directions after closure as a precaution.
It is not yet known why the device was reported as suspicious.
An investigation is underway.
