The man who allegedly opened fire on law enforcement officers in a residential area of South Carolina Wednesday, killed one and wounded several others, is a lawyer struck off, according to court records Supreme Court of South Carolina.
A source from the Florence County Sheriff's Office told ABC News Thursday that the suspect was Fred Hopkins, who was at the house where the shooting took place in Vintage Place, a suburban suburb of Florence. , about 80 km east of Columbia. .
Hopkins reportedly began shooting at members of the County of Florence when they appeared on Wednesday to serve a search warrant against another person at the residence. There were four children in the family home at the time of the incident, the source told ABC News.
The sheriff's office had already been called home several times, the source said. MPs were there to get a warrant signed for allegations of sexual assault against a minor at home, according to the source.

As the situation worsens, officers from the Florence Police Department intervene on the scene to help the sheriff's office.
A high-powered rifle was used during the attack, the source said. It is believed that the shots came from the second floor of the house.

Hopkins finally gave up and got out of the house with his hands in the air, according to the source.
An order of the Supreme Court of South Carolina dated June 22, 1982 ordered that Hopkins be struck off his decision not to comply with an order to pay $ 18,000 in legal fees allegedly wrongfully collected. Hopkins' wife, Cheryl Turner Hopkins, is also a lawyer, according to the order.
In 2015 and 2017, the 74-year-old was charged with "running free", tied to animal contention, the Associated Press reported, citing court records.

Three deputies from the Florence County Sheriff's Office and four officers from the Florence Police Department were shot dead, officials said.
The death of one of the officers at a local hospital, said the county coroner of Florence at ABC News. This officer was identified as the veteran of the Florence Police Department, Terrence Carraway, 52, of Darlington.
The police chief has described Carraway, his long-time friend, as the "most brave police officer" he's ever known.
"He was the very embodiment of a community policeman," Heidler told reporters Thursday.
Two of the injured policemen were released from the hospital. An officer remained hospitalized Thursday in a serious but stable condition, according to the mayor of Florence, Stephan Wukela.
The suspect was finally arrested on Wednesday.
