KINSHASA / MATADI, Democratic Republic of Congo (Reuters) – About 50 people were killed and a hundred others badly burned after the collision of a tanker with a vehicle in the Democratic Republic of Congo, announced a regional manager.

The Deputy Governor of Kongo Central Province, Atou Matubuana Nkuluki, said the authorities were doing everything in their power to help the victims of the accident in the village of Mbuta, located about 130 km from the capital.

"We mourn the death of about 50 people. About a hundred people are also burned to the second degree, "he said.

The roads of the nation of Central Africa are notoriously bad after years of war and neglect.

In 2010, at least 230 people were killed in Congo when an oil tanker overturned and exploded, triggering a fireball that ravaged homes and cinemas filled with spectators watching the World Cup football.
