Take this, Amazon and Walmart. Target has just announced that it is launching two free shipping days on hundreds of thousands of items on its site, without requiring minimum purchase or annual dues. This challenge to Amazon Prime comes at a time when the number of Prime members is the highest: Prime subscribers have reached the milestone of 100 million April. But this also comes at a time when premium subscription prices are rising and two-day deliveries are giving rise to general discontent, which often turns into three or even more than four days.

Unfortunately, the free delivery of Target is only a benefit for the holidays, not a new policy. (At least not yet.)

Target announced the launch of the two-day free delivery on November 1st and will extend the offer during the holiday season on December 22nd.

Previously, this free shipping option was only available to TARGET REDcard holders, who also receive an additional 5% discount. The offer for REDcard holders was announced in March and required a minimum purchase of $ 35.

This is the same minimum required by Walmart for its own free two-day shipping option launched last year. This week, Walmart has also expanded its offering to sellers in the market.

Target announced its news on Tuesday, adding that its new two-day option coexisted with a host of ways to shop in its stores.

In addition to home delivery, she now offers the same-day Shipt delivery service for shopping, gifts, decorations and other household items; Target Restock, for next day delivery. same day delivery in stores in urban markets such as Boston, Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C .; online order pickup; and Drive Up, for picking up orders the same day.

The latter will be available in nearly 1,000 stores by the end of the month, while Shipt is now available to millions of consumers in hundreds of markets in 46 US states.

Target's program to develop a variety of easy and affordable ways to buy its stores and site has paid off. In its most recent results, the retailer announced that its web-based sales had increased by 41%, thanks to the reduction in overnight delivery fees and the recovery of Amazon's first day in July – a holiday that now helps all retailers compete.

Target's sales growth for the quarter is the best it has seen in 13 years, the company said at the time.
