Teenager killed near Dartmouth College in Hanover is in stable condition

Students from Dartmouth College took refuge Friday night following the shooting of a 19-year-old man near Hanover campus, N.H., according to police and university officials.

The ambulance was taken by the Hannover ambulance to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, "where it is in a stable state," according to a statement released Saturday morning by Hanover police chief Charles B. Dennis. .

The man was shot shortly before 22 hours. On the sidewalk in front of the Christian Science Reading Room at 1 School Street, college officials on Saturday announced a statement posted on the school's website.

The Reading Room, which is part of the first scientist of the Church of Christ Scientist, is located about one block from downtown Hanover and about one block from the college.

The victim is not affiliated with Dartmouth, the statement said.

The campus community is being sheltered on site "as soon as gunfire has been reported to security officials in Dartmouth," the statement said.

Automated alerts were sent by phone and email to students, faculty, and staff shortly after 10 pm, the statement said. The shelter notification was lifted Saturday at 12:46.

According to Dennis, a 911 call reporting a possible gunshot victim was received by the Hannover Communication Center at around 9.45 pm. The Hanover police, the fire brigade and the emergency medical services intervened on the scene.

Upon arrival, the victim was found on the ground, the statement said. The on-site EMS staff looked after him and he was taken to the hospital.

The Hanover police are investigating and all those on School, West Wheelock and Allen Streets who have heard or seen anything that night are asked to contact the police at 603-643-2222, Dennis said. in a statement.

It was not clear whether a suspect or suspects had been arrested on Saturday. A police officer from Hanover refused to comment beyond what had been published in the police release.

The shooting sparked an "important police reaction" from regional departments and the New Hampshire state police, the statement said.

"Police have investigated several reports of gunshots fired at other locations in Hanover, but found nothing to indicate that gunshots were fired. elsewhere, "the statement said.

On Friday night, during the shooting, representatives of several agencies, including the New Hampshire State Police, Hanover Police and firefighters, were present. Emergency vehicles have blocked School Street.

The Dartmouth campus seemed unusually quiet late Friday night. The streets closest to the dormitories were deserted and the library lobby was locked.

Campus foreclosure did not seem to affect the downtown business and you could see guests at local restaurants and pubs having dinner and watching sports.
