COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV / WVLT) – A group of Colorado teens broke a van in a clinic, but did not steal marijuana, said the store's owner.
Teens drove the van to Native Roots and stole a number of exhibits; However, it is the owner who has the last word.
According to the affiliate of CBS KKTV, the display elements were not the real thing.
"I was out of work and all of a sudden we heard this big, old crash," said Brent Wrathbone. "[The suspects] came out with bunches of marijuana in her arms. "
Wrathbone called the police; he told the officials that the teens had thrown him a bottle of beer.
"I just decided to call the cops, and we decided to get their plate number and all, and then I'm getting a bottle of beer," he said to KKTV.
The van – which the police have since found was stolen – was left behind by the suspects, parked and still running, sitting well inside the store. Wrathbone and other witnesses told the police that they had seen the group leave in a separate getaway car on the other side of the clinic. The police believe that there were two people in the van when she crashed into the store and two others in the van vehicle.
Native Roots is not the only place where police believe that the band hit overnight. Thirsty Goats Liquor Store 3, located just up the road, was burgled at the same time. The officers tell KKTV that they think some of the suspects broke into the store to provoke a distraction while their accomplices entered the clinic.
The teenagers caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.
