NEW YORK – The Brooklyn rapper, Tekashi 6ix9ine, has been transferred to a federal facility, often used for witnesses who cooperate with the authorities, reports TMZ.

Tekashi, born Daniel Hernandez, was arrested earlier this week on charges of racketeering and firearms, according to law enforcement officials.

Hernandez was considered a potential danger to the community and a risk of flight, and was denied bail on Monday.

Among the reasons given for refusing bail, Hernandez knew the charges were punishable by a mandatory minimum of 32 years in prison and as long as life, US Attorney Michael Longyear said.

On Thursday, however, TMZ announced that Hernandez was transferred Wednesday evening to a federal institution where witnesses regularly cooperate with the authorities. PIX11 contacted the US Attorney's Office to confirm the report.

Hernandez's lawyer, Lance Lazzaro, would not have confirmed to TMZ whether his client was considering concluding an agreement with the authorities.

Also on Wednesday, Lazzaro said in a statement that his client was "totally innocent of all charges".

"An artist who represents a" gangster image "to promote his music does not make him a member of a company," Lazzaro said.

Hernandez is one of five people charged with leading or participating in acts of violence as part of a murderous gang known as 9 Trey Bloods.
