Tens of thousands of people are without electricity while violent thunderstorms sweep northeast of Ohio

According to FirstEnergy, more than 40,000 customers in northeastern Ohio are currently deprived of electricity because of severe thunderstorms in the area.

Almost all of these failures occur only in the counties of Cuyahoga, Lake and Lorain. Most devices should be available again at 8pm, but some might not have service before Sunday afternoon.

A violent thunderstorm warning affected parts of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lake Counties until 5:15 pm. WKYC meteorologist Matt Wintz provided an update on the situation earlier on Facebook.

We received several photos of the damage caused by the storm in the area.
