The decision of an immigration court to deport Joe Giudice in his native Italy on Wednesday was taken after his prison term had taken the wife Teresa Giudice by surprise.
A source close to Real housewives from New Jersey The star tells people that Teresa, 46, "never imagined that Joe would really be expelled."
"That will break it," says the insider. "She always knew it was a possibility, but she spread it out of her head. It's the only way she can live from day to day. "
PEOPLE confirmed Joe's deportation on Wednesday through a spokesperson for the US Department of Justice's Immigration Regulatory Bureau. They say Joe will have 30 days to appeal the decision.
Joe is currently serving a 41-month prison sentence for mail, cable and bankruptcy fraud that began in March 2016. He is expected to be released in 2019. Teresa has served a little more than 11 months from prison for the same crimes and was released. December 23, 2015.

Teresa was not in immigration court with Joe Wednesday, although he appeared in prison via Skype, according to RadarOnline.
His decision not to go to court is not surprising to the source, which again highlights Teresa's decision to focus on the positive. "That's why she hates going to see him in jail too. It's just like "Stay busy and do not think about bad things." [It’s] a very Italian way of being, "says the source.
"Joe encourages Teresa to be like that," the source added. "He feels a lot of guilt about what happened and would prefer that she stay focused on their daughters and their home business rather than worrying about another of her problems. It's sad but it will be too difficult to ignore. "

As difficult as it may be, a second source close to Teresa – who shares her daughters Gia, 17, Gabriella, 14, Milania, 12, and Audriana, 9, with Joe – "will succeed."
"Teresa is incredibly strong, and whether she recognizes it or not, I think she was secretly prepared for it," the source said. "Since Joe left, Teresa has gained independence. She took control of her life and she raised these girls well. "
"It's sad, but she will handle it as well as she manages everything else," the source continues. "She will spread her own feelings to make sure her daughters are cared for. Teresa is a big girl. She will have a brave face all along. "

In the meantime, it is unclear whether Joe will appeal the court's decision.
When PEOPLE reached its goal, its immigration lawyers had not commented yet. James J. Leonard Jr., Giudice's family lawyer, also declined to comment on Wednesday's news, as did Bravo.
In May, a source told PEOPLE that the two could not wait to "become a family again".
"The last few years have been painful for everyone," said the insider, adding that Teresa and Joe "can not wait to be reunited".
The new season of RHONJ is scheduled for the first on November 7 on Bravo.
