Terrell Owens, former receiver of the Cincinnati Bengals Pro Football Hall of Fame and expected to be enshrined next month, announced Tuesday morning via Twitter that he will be giving his speech at the Hall of Fame at his alma mater, the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, instead of attending the induction ceremony in Canton, Ohio, with the rest of his class.

Owens said in June that he would be jumping August induction to Canton and celebrate elsewhere.

Former NFL player and coach and current television analyst Tony Dungy tweeted that he feels sorry for Owens.

"It will be his loss, not Hall's," Dungy added .

Pro Football Hall of Famer and former student of Middletown High School Cree Carter Tweeted that it is "even more excited" to attend the weekend at Canton knowing that Owens will not be the.

Owens posted a video last month on his Instagram account that appears to show two stopwatch operators capturing the 44-year-old running 40-yard dashes in 4.43 and 4.44 seconds.

Owens' career ended after his only season in Cincinnati. He had 72 receptions for 983 yards with nine touchdowns in 14 games.

Owens is second in the NFL receiving yards with 15,934 and third in career touchdown receptions with 153.
