"Is it a seal, or is it a cigar?" Musk asked Rogan before being told that it was a cigarette containing marijuana, which is legal in California, and tobacco.
When asked if he had ever tried it, the contractor said, "Yes, I think I have tried it once."
"You probably can not because of the shareholders," said Rogan, to whom Musk replied, "I mean, it's legal, right?"
The two men had engaged in a long discussion on a number of issues, including humanity, artificial intelligence, Tesla and China.
Elsewhere in the podcast, which lasted about 2:30, Musk is given a samurai sword by Rogan, whom he observes with keen interest.
Musk also introduced into the studio one of the flamethrowers of his tunnels company, which has run out just days after it went on sale early in the year. We see him brandishing him in an Instagram post from Rogan.
